Eta Kappa Nu (HKN)

Eta Kappa Nu (ΗΚΝ) is the international electrical and computer engineering honor society of the IEEE, founded in October 1904 by Maurice L. Carr at the University of Illinois. The organization currently has around 200 student chapters and several thousand members. The City College of New York Chapter, Beta Pi, was established in Feb 16, 1946.

Eta Kappa Nu is dedicated to encouraging and recognizing individual excellence in education and meritorious work in professional practice in any of the areas within the IEEE designated fields of interest.

Through a variety of service programs and leadership training, student members develop lifelong skills that earmark them for prominent positions in industry and academia. Members are better prepared for the post-college world and are especially valuable and attractive to employers. They are recognized as extremely capable, both technically and professionally. This reflects the intention of the founding members which was to recognize and prepare the future leaders of the profession.
