Narrative Medicine at CCNY

The goal of this club is to enhance awareness of Narrative Medicine in the greater City College community. Narrative medicine is a part of the official curriculum at Sophie Davis School of biomedical education, and is slowly blossoming in medical schools nationwide. The aim of the field is to develop skills of “narrative competence,” the skill that helps us to embrace the discomfort and vulnerability that often comes with non-normative experiences, illness-related or otherwise.  We hope to provide an opportunity to practice these skills by creating safe spaces of self-reflection, sharing, and active listening. To promote self-care, wellness, and embracing non-normativity, we hope to engage in activities including poetry readings, guest lecturers, sharing of both student and faculty writing, and groups in which participants can practice reflective writing and sharing.
